Emergency Dental Care
Imagine you are on a trip and have a fall and suddenly you realise one tooth just popped out. What do you do next?
This was the same story of one of our patients who visited us in the month of July this year. A bunch of boys, went to a villa in karjat for a bachelors party, and were enjoying their time in the swimming pool. Suddenly one of them fell off the slide face first and realised that one of his front teeth had popped out. What should we do now? was the question. One of them was my friend and immediately called me.
First thing I asked, was it bleeding? He said NO. In case it was bleeding I would have told him the control bleeding by applying pressure using a cloth or gauze.
The next question was did he lose consciousness at any point? He said NO. In case the answer was yes, I would have immediately told them to do a CT scan, but even if the answer was no, I asked them to immediately see a physician linked to the resort and get a basic check up done to rule out any head injury.
Next i asked them do you have the tooth that popped out or can you find it? They said it wasn't possible due to water and a lot of people around. I. Case they did have the tooth, I would have told them to save it in coconut water to prevent dehydration and then we could have tried reimplanting the same tooth in position. Yes, that is possible.
Next i told them to see me as soon as possible. His main concern was he needed some temporary solution as he couldn't stay without the front tooth. They came to me during their return journey home.
I checked for any part of the tooth remaining, any other cuts anywhere else in lips, gums, etc. I realised the whole tooth was out and there was some damage to the bane as well as gums. We needed to graft the bone to preserve it and stitch back the gums. Next we needed to restore his smile with a temporary tooth. As no other teeth had any damage we could immediately make a temporary tooth and bond it to neighbouring teeth with tooth colour material and within just 20-30 mins, his smile was restored back. I still remember.the sigh of relief on his face when he saw himself in the mirror. We suggested him to replace it with an implant after 3-4 months.
